Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama television series that premiered on American Broadcasting Company as a mid-season replacement on March 27, 2005. The series has aired for fifteen seasons, and focuses on the fictional lives of surgical interns and residents as they evolve into seasoned doctors while trying to maintain personal lives. The show's premise originated with Shonda Rhimes.

There have been a multitude of Grey’s Anatomy seasons, to the point that casual viewers have no clue what happened in which season now that Season 15 just ended. There’s quite a bit of a wait until Season 16 starts, and people would want to go back to previous seasons to freshen up their memories.

Season 13 wasn’t the best one by any means, but that doesn’t disqualify it from repeated viewings, and there were a handful episodes that still stand out among the triple hundred episodes the show has churned out by now. Then again, there were also some duds that contributed to this season not being so memorable. For you to understand better, here are 5 best and 5 worst episodes Grey’s Anatomy Season 13.

10 Best: Ring of Fire

Grey’s Anatomy season finales almost always have some sort of catastrophe happening, and this season wasn’t an exception either as the hospital was seen under fire. A mass evacuation was the center of the conflict, while the characters rushed around trying to prioritize during this challenge.

It was a much-welcomed push toward setting things straight, and we saw Meredith find the courage to let go of Nathan so he could have the option of reuniting with his long-lost love. Stephanie, for once, had something of substance to contribute, with her story in this episode being a highlight. The show’s push for Station 19 to feel legit hit home thanks to the theme of the episode matching with that series’ stone.

9 Worst: Civil War

The episode was appropriately titled, since every person featured had a bone to pick with one another. The whole story revolved around the characters treating each other with acrimony, as Richard was met with marriage problems with Catherine, and was shown to be staying at the hospital. Meanwhile, Nathan and Meredith’s relationship hit a big snag due to his battle with Alex, and he issued Meredith an ultimatum.

All in all, it was a lot of tension, which got old way too fast. A little butting heads wouldn’t have been bad, but we had to sit through almost an hour of this, and it wasn’t worth the pay off in the end either.

8 Best: True Colors

The prelude to the finale was a great episode in its own right. It raised the very important issue of harassment against women, and this matter was dealt with in a very empowering manner. Other than that, the story saw the climax approaching to Megan Hunt’s identity reveal, which was seen completed in the season finale.

“True Colors” is what is needed from a penultimate episode, and that is to set up the last episode as something must-see. It was fast-paced in style too, with the ending leaving things up to interpretation until the reveal of the fire later on.

7 Worst: Don't Stop Me Now

The needlessly long story of the Maggie/Nathan/Meredith love triangle that nobody asked for and nobody wanted culminated here, as Maggie became knowledgeable of there being something up between her sister and her crush. Although we were pleased for this angle to come to a close, it still wasn’t worth a watch.

Add to that, the continuation of Catherine’s estrangement with Richard didn’t exactly set alight interest from the viewers, since Catherine isn’t intriguing to watch. The saving grace was the patient case for the week, but Amelia’s rather annoying personality magnifying due to this didn’t help matters here.

6 Best: Be Still My Soul

Unlike Lexie, the fans haven’t been so accepting of Maggie, and her love angles with Nathan and Jackson have been met with a tepid response. The problem with her has been that being Meredith’s sister hasn’t granted her an interesting personality to follow.

This was rectified in this episode, which was a Maggie-centric story. It was pretty touching stuff, too, as we saw Maggie be with her mother in her final moments. Those who seemed to find Maggie annoying or needless were turned away from those thoughts at least for this episode, whose crowning emotional moment was when Maggie’s mother passed away; fulfilling the message that just because you’re adopted, doesn’t mean you’re loved any less.

5 Worst: You Haven't Done Nothin'

If we’re being honest, the number of revelations from Jo’s past that conveniently keep popping up has started to feel too fictionalized, and this episode saw her tell Alex about her true past; something that just seemed a bit out there to feel genuine.

The other stories were scattered here and there, with nothing really solid enough to remember by, while Jo admits to Alex about her former marriage where her husband was extremely violent to her. That still wasn’t as bad as Amelia ditching Owen, whose complete failure in love interests (Cristina, Teddy, now Amelia), was now more of a joke than serious business.

4 Best: The Room Where It Happens

On occasion, it’s nice to have the medical cases be the center of storytelling rather than emotional bonds breaking up all the time. In this episode, we got just that, as the plot concerned around an unidentified patient, whose case makes the rest of the doctors hark back to treasured moments of their past.

We got to see further characterization of Richard, who recalled his mother’s death back when he was just a child; Owen also had flashes of his sister, whose character was given shape and form to the viewer. It was a good reminder of how this show is about doctors treating patients.

3 Worst: Roar

One of the best cullings from the cast was the removal of Leah Murphy, who was easily the worst of the interns introduced in Season 9. Her obsession over Alex became disturbing rather than cute, and her re-arrival at the hospital in this episode only made us groan for what was to come.

Leah came back and immediately resumed her needless status on the show, while the rest of the characters had nothing to shine on. The other stories were left here and there, having hardly much to build a whole plot on for the hour, with stuff like Andrew showing interest in Jo, or Amelia admitting she was happy she wasn’t pregnant as feared before.

2 Best: In The Air Tonight

Bottle episodes are a treat that only come once in a while, and this one was a splendid affair that brought us away from the hospital and in a kind of rom-com setting for Meredith and Nathan. The episode had the two tackling their issues while on a flight, and the resultant events that made them confront how they felt about each other.

More than anything, the biggest draw about this episode is that it was more of a comedy than all-out drama. We saw the stuff you usually see in meet-cutes, such as the two arguing while having a stranger in between, and being locked in a lavatory with no place else to go. It was easily the best episode of the season.

1 Worst: It Only Gets Much Worse

Whenever there’s a shake-up at the hospital, it’s touch and go whether it would work out; it didn’t in this case. The episode had a lot of warring between residents, which was something that would’ve been cool back in Season 5 – in Season 13, it was more “Meh”.

April, who had already reached the final stages of her high-strung nature being too much for viewers to take in (something that contributed to her exit in Season 14), was featured taking in her new role as Head of General Surgery, and the result was a less than enthused response; we all saw it coming - and it wasn’t a good thing. With so much animosity in the air, we rather preferred the breezy stories that made us want to visit the hospital over this.
